Event Description

NOTE~~~::: Venue Change - please come to Media Lab at UN University - (FujiMamas has closed down!)

Hear an international expert talk about the potential for BioChar to capture & store Carbon, reduce the impact of de-forestation and improve the yield of crops.

How can something you never heard of be so important? Come to learn more.....

Synopsis

The production of charcoal or "biochar" is an ancient art and practise in Japan used to improve plant growth. A great global effort is now underway to develop this technology even further and I will talk about how Canada is building upon this great work as an environmentally and financially viable means to improve crop yields and enhance soil fertility while potentially sequestering very large quantities of Carbon safely and productively in our soils.

Mini-bio

Kevin Aschim is Market Development Manager with the Alberta Research Council and Co-Founder and Chairman of the Canadian Biochar Initiative. He spent 20 years in operating, sales and management positions within the Canadian Pulp and Paper and Chemical Industries. He has a degree in Forestry and an MBA from the University of Alberta. This is his first visit to Japan.

DO Please RSVP - last month only 34 people responded positive or tentative but over 50 peope showed and for the first time - we did actually run out of food!!!.
